Youth involvement in criminal activities worrisome
22 Jul 2018
Police in Maunatlala village are concerned about the number of youth involved in criminal activities.
In an interview with BOPA recently, Acting Station Commander, Inspector Obonye Ramoroka expressed concern at the rate at which the youth of Maunatlala have resorted to crime.
Mr Ramoroka noted that his office had been investigating cases of bar breaking-ins at Wood bar in Maunatlala, which happened on two occasions; on July 7 and 12 and the mode of operation was the same, indicating that it was the same culprits.
He said their investigations led them to a farm around the area, where they managed to arrest four suspects aged between 17 and 20 years, all from Maunatlala village.
Mr Ramoroka said two other suspects are still at large.
The acting station commander explained that the perpetrators steal alcoholic beverages and cigarettes for their own consumption as indicated by the ‘remains’ of the stolen items, which were recovered at the farm.
He cautioned the youth to desist from such behaviour, emphasising that a criminal record tarnishes one’s future and their hope of ever finding formal employment.
Mr Ramoroka pleaded with parents to refrain from taking their children’s side when they are wrong and work with the authorities to prevent crime. ENDS
