Murder-suicide haunts Molepolole police
29 Apr 2018
Increasing numbers of murder and suicide cases are worrisome in the Molepolole policing area, says Molepolole acting Station Commander, Assistant Superintendent Salome Segale.
The concern was raised following recent reports that two women were murdered while their male associates commuted suicide in Molepolole and Botlhapatlou Assistant Superintendent Segale said one of the cases involved a 36-year-old
Thebephatshwa Air Base Lance Corporal who went missing recently.
The man’s disappearance was brought to the police attention after he failed to report for work for two consecutive days.
Suspicions also increased after the man posted on his Face Book page that he intends to commit suicide, and how his funeral programme should look like.
“It was then that the search team comprising members of the BDF and the police were led to Legonono where the man had accommodation and his lifeless body was spotted by a nine-year-old boy hanging some metres from his home in the nearby hill,” said Assistant Superintendent Segale.
The acting Station Commander, however, could not divulge the content of the facebook messages as she had not been able to view the said messages, but confirmed there was a report made to that effect.
In another incident, a Mogogoru man aged 27 was found hanging along the Mokgopeetsane stream while the lifeless body of his 20-year-old Legonono girlfriend was found lying in a pool of blood some few metres away from where the man was hanging.
The incident took place behind Sefalana Cash and Carry in Molepolole at around 4pm. The man is suspected to have used a sharp instrument suspected to be a knife to murder the girlfriend.
The other incident is where a Botlhapatlou man is reported to have murdered the woman believed to be his girlfriend following a misunderstanding between the suspect and two of his girlfriends.
The 40-year-old suspect allegedly murdered his 48-year-old lover by stabbing her with a sharp instrument.
The misunderstanding allegedly ensued when the three were from a drinking spree leading to the killing of one of the two women.
Assistant Superintendent Segale called on individuals with intentions to kill themselves to consider exhausting relevant counselling channels before resorting to suicide, adding that murder and suicide left trauma on those related to the deceased persons and that the actions also impacted on people around.
She further noted that the three incidents brought to eight the number of murder and suicide cases reported between January and April. ENDS
