Elephant attacks British woman

Maun police are investigating an incident in which a 57-year-old woman was attacked by an elephant at Boro ward outside Maun on April 16.

Station commander, Superintendent, Motlhaba Ramaabya confirmed the incident, noting that the deceased, who originates from Britain, met her ordeal in the evening around 6:30pm while she was with his 67- year-old Motswana partner.

They were said to have been walking their dogs.

He said the deceased partner informed the police about the incident.

Narrating the story, the police chief said the partner reported that prior to the incident, the elephant invaded their yard, which is located along a river bank and they managed to chase it away with their vehicle.

After sometime, the couple decided to take their dogs for a walk, but immediately they left the yard, the elephant pounced on the woman while her partner ran for his life.

Superintendent Ramaabya revealed that the man ran to the house and later found his partner laying outside helpless with serious injuries all over her body.

He said the deceased partner, rushed her to Letsholathebe Memorial Memorial Hospital, where she was certified dead on arrival.

Superintendent Ramaabya has appealed to the public to report elephants roaming the village to the relevant authorities.

He said it was the second incident of this nature in his policing area.

The first incident took place at Samedupi settlement, where a woman was also attacked and killed by an elephant.

Meanwhile, Superintendent Ramaabya said they had experienced reduction in crime, the situation he attributed to regular patrols the police conducted. ENDS
