Court refuses murder accused bail

Prosecutor in a case in which Daniel Phadisa is facing two counts of murder has informed Gaborone Broadhurst Magistrate Court that investigations into the case are complete.
Updating the court during Phadisa’s regular mention recently, Sub Inspector Onkemetse Modukanele of Broadhurst Police Station said they were currently working on compiling a photo album of the incident.
Sub Inspector Modukanele however noted that since they had forwarded the docket to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP), she was optimistic that an officer from the directorate would mention the case in the next sitting, which would be January 18.
Phadisa’s dream of spending Christmas and New Year’s Eve outside prison was dashed on December 21, 2017 after Magistrate Wame Mosugelo, who was holding fort for Magistrate Gaseitsiwe Tonoki, further extended his remand warrant at the request of the prosecution.
In his latest request to be granted bail while awaiting trial, he told Magistrate Tonoki that since the prosecution had informed the court that investigations into the matter were complete, that was a perfect opportunity for him to be granted bail because there was no how he could interfere with investigations.
Like in the previous bail ruling, Magistrate Tonoki declined to grant him bail on the basis that he may not turn up for trial looking at the gravity of the crime committed.
He however further advised him to apply for bail at the High Court.
Phadisa allegedly murdered two women, Ms Bembe Magosi and her daughter Gomolemo Motladiile, in Broadhurst location in Gaborone on September 30, 2017. ENDS
