Court denies double muder accused bail

Broadhurst Magistrate Court on Monday (November 27) denied double-murder accused, Daniel Phadisa bail for the second time in a space of two weeks, after his initial attempt to persuade the court to grant him bail pending trial failed.
Phadisa slammed claims by the prosecution that he was a flight risk.
He noted that if he was indeed a flight risk, he could had vanished by the time of the incident but he did not and was consequently arrested where he stays.
He also noted that if granted bail he would relocate to a place where chances of being attacked by members of the society would be minimal.
Earlier on, Inspector Oamogetswe Gaboutlwelwe of Broadhurst Police Station, who was holding fort for substantive prosecutor, told court that investigations were nearing completion and that they had already obtained postmortem results.
Witness statements are also to be typed before the docket could be sent to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for assessment.
She however said they were still apprehensive on granting bail to the accused because he was a flight risk in that he had murdered two people and he might skip bail.
Inspector Gaboutlwelwe also noted that the accused could be attacked by members of the public and that he could be a danger to himself and therefore prayed the court to further detain him.
In his ruling, Magistrate Tonoki Gaseitsiwe concurred with the prosecution and further said the matter was still fairly fresh in that the incident happened just two months ago involving the murder of two people and therefore a little more time was needed to facilitate the matter to another stage without interruption.
Phadisa allegedly murdered two women, Ms Bembe Magosi and her daughter Gomolemo Motladiile in Broadhurst location in Gaborone on September 30, 2017.
He will appear again for mention on December 11, 2017. BOPA
