Burglary theft haunt Kazungula
16 Aug 2017
Kazungula police and residents have decried of high level of burglary and theft incidences in their area.
Speaking during a kgotla meeting in Kazungula, assistant superintendent, Tenda Mojumi said they were concerned at the rate at which burglary and theft cases were increasing in the area, adding that it was disturbing that despite their efforts, no arrest were made.
“Though, we have not made any arrests, we have managed to realise that there are two groups involved, through footprints and some leads across the border and some seem to be residents of Kazungula and these are the same footprints we have identified even for the past years,” added Ast Supt Mojumi.
Last year alone, he said they recorded 16 cases and from January to May they had already recorded 16 similar cases, which was equivalent to the number they recorded the whole of last year.
Furthermore, he said it was disturbing as it was a clear indication that the number would increase looking at the fact that this year, the burglars even break in during the day when people were at work.
“As the police, we have realised these burglars roam around the village during the day identifying houses whose owners are not around, either at work or on holiday and it seems they are mostly interested in plasma television screens and food items,” he added.
Kgosi Mokwena Balemogeng of Kazungula complained about public nuisance and endless parties, especially at night as he said it was worrisome because it disturbed public peace.
Security Services company branch manager, Mr Dominic Khumo urged residents to ensure that their houses had burglar proofs or even alarms and encouraged them to always keep a relationship with their neighbours and always work hand in hand with the police.
Kazungula residents were urged to select new crime prevention committees that would be active and willing to work hand in hand with the police.BOPA
