I was influenced by evil spirit to steal

15 May 2017

A man accused of stealing P1.9 million whilst employed as senior crewman at Brinks Global Services  has told Gaborone Village Chief Magistrate that he ‘greatly’ regreted his actions as he was influenced by an evil spirit.
Kealeboga Mogale, who has been on the run after his case was registered with Village court since 2012, admitted all facts as read to him and told magistrate Mompati Taolo that shortly after stealing the company money, he went ‘berserk’ because it was his first time to see such amount of money in his life.
Mogale however admitted that though he had intended to bring back the money to its rightful owner, he failed to do so.
The court heard that on May 11, 2012 the accused stole the sum of P1.9million  at Diamond Technology Park in Gaborone, the money belonging to Brinks Global Service, his employer at that time, having come into his possession on account of his employment.

It is noted that the accused at the time and one David Ralentswana rode on the back of a Dyna truck driven by Segopolo Gouwe to collect a consignment consisting of bank notes from Bank of Botswana.
It is further noted that the accused and his companions collected the other consignment including the one consisting of bank notes received from Bank of Botswana from Brinks Global Services to deliver the consignment for shipping at Sire Seretse Khama Airport.
He never shipped the consignment.

When the accused was arrested, a total of P1 277 243.50 was recovered from one accomplice Khumo Monyera.
Meanwhile the investigating officer in the matter will furnish the court with Mogale’s previous convictions, if any, when he comes back to court of May 17, 2017.
He has since pleaded guilty and is expected to launch his mitigating factors when he appears.
Mogale in the meantime has other pending criminal matters before the courts.
He was rearrested last week on May 9, in Tlokweng. ENDS
