28 Dec 2016

Selebi Phikwe was calm and collected over the Christmas break.

Selebi Phikwe Police Station Commander Superintendent Victor Nlebesi said

no major accidents or serious criminal activities occurred in the Selebi Phikwe policing area.

He said Selebi Phikwe police were on patrol day and night over the Christmas holiday and most people had left the town to visit friends, relatives and cattle posts.

He also indicated that no accidents were recorded along the Selebi Phikwe-Serule road as well as along the Selebi Phikwe/ Mmadinare-Robelela road. He said traffic control vehicles were on patrol along the roads. However he mentioned that there were quite a high number of vehicles using the Mmadinare-Robelela via Matopi road and crossing over into Zimbabwe. He explained that roadblocks were set up along the roads and everything was under control.

For his part Serule Police Station Commander Superintendent Lesole Mosimane also shared the same views indicating that they did not experience any problems over the Christmas holidays. He said police in his area only recorded six cases of unlawful wounding and assault, which resulted from fights that broke out at bars or shebeens in Serule and Gojwane villages. He further indicated that traffic offences they recorded included people failing to put on seat belts as well as driving vehicles with minor problems such as defects on vehicle tail lights resulting in the lights failing to function among other minor issues. He said this time around they did not record any cases of people driving vehicles under the influence of alcohol.

In the meantime, Superintendent Nlebesi said police urge motorists to continue with the good responsible driving spirit over the New Year’s break. He said people should check their vehicles for road worthiness and safety before embarking on journeys. He added that police roadblocks will be mounted along the Selebi Phikwe -Serule and Selebi Phikwe/Mmadinare -Robelela roads and high way patrol vehicles will be patrolling the roads including A1 road. ends
