Police promise intensified patrols

22 Dec 2016

Since the festive season has kicked in and most people head over to their native homes, police officers on the one hand will be at their busiest.

Letlhakeng police would be no exception and they have already  intensified their daily activities around their policing area.

Speaking in an interview, Letlhakeng station commander, Assistant Superintendent Daniel Katse urged the public, especially bar operators to obey the stipulated operating times to avoid any brush with the law.

“We will have no mercy this time around and anyone who will be caught breaking the law will spend the rest of the festive season in our cells.

That is how serious we are,” he cautioned.

Asst Supt Katse said they had intensified their night patrol team that would be accompanying the bye-law officials to ensure that bar operators complied with the stipulated times of operation.

He also pleaded with the public to also cooperate with them.

He also indicated that they had intensified road blocks around their policing area to ensure compliance with traffic rules.

His counterpart in Takatokwane Supt Ocean Maraganyane indicated that they had already started their road blocks this Monday and they had pooled police officers from their outposts to beef up major villages in their policing area such as Takatokwane as experience had taught them that it was where crime was rifer.

Supt Maraganyane said on Christmas and New Year days they would patrol 24 hours since  most crime occurred during those days.

He also indicated that this year, they had been fortunate in as far as murder cases were concerned, saying they did not register any murder case as compared to six cases in 2014 and five cases last year.

“So I plead with the community that this good record should be preserve going into the festive. This is a good behaviour that should be encouraged,” he said.

Supt. Maraganyane also pleaded with the community to be vigilant and report any miscreant behaviour to them.

He said people should learn to control themselves and obey the law even in the absence of police officers.

He implored on people to drink responsibly, indicating that most criminal offences such as murder, rape and assault and even traffic accidents occurred as a result of excessive alcohol intake. ENDS
