LAPCAS deadline set for December

The Assistant Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services, Mr Itumeleng Moipisi has called on land boards to meet the deadline set for the completion of the LAPCAS project.
Officially closing the 11th Leadership Forum for the ministry, Mr Moipisi said LAPCAS was a good project, which would improve land management systems.
He said a deadline of December 2016 was set to had registered all the residential land plots.
“What we must question ourselves as leadership of Ministry of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services is whether we are going to accomplish our target,” he said.
He said all must see what could be done to ensure that the land registration was completed as scheduled.
He said the ministry had been entrusted with the management of land for Batswana and that contributed to their socio economic development.
Touching on corruption and conflict of interest, Mr Moipisi said all should strive and work hard to eliminate corruption.
“We should be mindful of the fact that allocation of land is a major milestone in the growth of a person.”
He urged them to endeavour to deal with corruption in all its manifestations as the leadership, adding “we should faithfully, diligently and truthfully safe guard the treasure what we have been entrusted with by the people of Botswana.”
He said the country has just celebrated 50th anniversary of independence, therefore the leadership should not forget that such a great milestone was attained through good governance, good policies and commitment to work. He said land is precious and it is only as precious if it is managed effectively such that there are no conflicts that may arise due to unethical practices.
“Should we manage it meticulously, we shall contribute immensely to this country’s next 50 years of peace and tranquility,” he said.
Regarding the involvement of bogosi in land management, he advised that participatory decision making builds consensus for the common good of the people, while at the same time mitigating risks. He therefore urged land management institutions to involve traditional leadership and other local level structures to realise sustainable development. ENDS
