Botswana benchmarks on electronic voting

Member of Parliament for Boteti East, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe, says studies of countries using electronic voting machine were all presented in Parliament.
Mr Lelatisitswe said this during a kgotla meeting in Mmatshumo on Friday (October 7).
He explained that the machine would have all party symbols and user friendly with regard to old aged people.
Polling stations, he said would be reduced looking at the number of population residing in a certain area.
Mr Lelatisitswe was responding to Mr Orapeletswe Gobopang who had asked whether benchmarking on the use of electronic voting machine was undertaken.
While Mr Mmoloki Ntshekisang, who said he supported the use of the machine, had asked if it would be user friendly to old aged people.
Another resident, Mr Matshwenyego Baganetseng said the machine would hasten the voting process, adding that it should also be taken to remote areas.
In addition, a village elder, Mr John Baganetseng said he was against the idea of reducing polling stations.
While Village Development Committee chairperson, Mr Mosedi Mompati requested grading and gravelling of Mmatshumo Gaing-O road.
He also decried lack of transport for veterinary officer and Agricultural demonstrator.
Mr Mompati also requested increment of Ipelegeng vacancies with 45 since draught has been declared in 2016. ENDS
