Parental support key to education

10 Oct 2016

Daisy Loo managing director, Mr Moemedi Dijeng, has called on parents to support teachers in improving children’s education.

Mr Dijeng made the call at Metsimasweu Junior Secondary School prize giving ceremony on Friday (October 7).

He said teachers would not be able to achieve anything if there was no help from parents.

“Children need a lot of guidance and support from parents as the world is greatly affected by many things like teenage pregnancy and drug abuse. Therefore, they need parents to stand up and contribute positively in the education and development of their children,” he stated.

This, he said called for parents to play different roles at home such as being a teacher, an advisor, a friend or a counsellor.

He said today’s children are exposed to things that may ruin their future, as such said parents should be always on guard.

He stated that, “we must do all in our powers to make sure they get the best education and grow responsible citizens and even our saviors at home.”

On the other hand, he said teachers have a mammoth duty to instill students with knowledge they need to know and master the future.

Mr Dijeng said there is a need for teachers to work with passion and show commitment in their work.

He further said the ministry of education is still facing challenges of civil services undergoing controversies and rough patches, teaching service was and is greatly affected and this obviously means students are affected.

However, he said government is doing all it can to satisfy the needs of teachers so that they do exceedingly well.

Mr Dijeng said getting a prize is a great achievement, but this does not mean that they can now relax and sit back, “it calls for consistency on the part of a deserving student and encourage those who are not getting anything to take it as a challenge and inspiration. ENDS
