Donkey Cart Accident Injures Two

04 Oct 2016

A 28-year-old woman suffered head injuries while her six year old daughter fractured her right leg on September 30 when the donkey cart they were riding in was hit by a truck near Mabutsane along the Trans-Kalahari Highway.
Mabutsane station commander Superintendent  Keitshokile Kebodiretswe said the truck, which was from Namibia and heading to South Africa, hit a donkey cart which was travelling in the same direction. He said the third occupant of the cart was a three year old girl who escaped unhurt.
Superintendent  Kebodiretswe said the woman was rushed to Mabutsane Clinic where she was treated and discharged the same day, while her daughter was admitted at Jwaneng Mine Hospital.
He said the truck driver has been charged with careless driving.
In a separate accident, Superintendent  Kebodiretswe said four occupants of a Toyota Rav 4 suffered minor injuries when the vehicle they were travelling in overturned between Khakhea and Keng on the night of September 30.
He said all of them were treated at Jwaneng Mine Hospital and discharged the following day, while police investigations continue.
He further said they were investgating another accident in which a Toyota Hiace overturned between Mabutsane and Kokong turn-off along the Trans-Kalahari Highway on September 29.
He said a six year old girl sustained a cut on the head and was treated at Jwaneng Mine hospital and discharged the following day, while three other passengers were treated for minor injuries at Mabutsane clinic. The driver of the vehicle escaped unhurt.
In yet another accident, Superintendent  Kebodiretswe said five occupants of a Mazda Axella escaped unhurt after the car overturned between Sekoma and Jwaneng on October 2. He said police investigations were continuing.
The station commander has urged drivers to be vigilant on the road and avoid overspeeding to avoid accidents. He said the number of road accidents have increased this year as there were no accidents during the same period last year.
He also said the increase in the number of accidents was a challenge to the police to be more visible on the roads and mount speed traps to help address the situation.ENDS
