Compensation assessment to start
03 Oct 2016
Technical team for Tutume infrastructure projects has planned to complete assessments for compensation for properties to be affected by construction of internal roads project by November this year.
Speaking at consultative meeting with the affected property owners in Tutume on Wednesday, Tutume Sub-district Council chairman, Mr Ishmael Mokgethi noted that developments came with some changes that would affect some residents negatively and therefore there should be compromise by some to make way for the developments.
He therefore appealed to the residents in particular those that would be affected by the internal roads project, adding that so far the project consultant, HAAS, had completed the design audit and markings had been erected on properties that would be affected.
He implored people not to temper or remove them whether they agree or disagree with the current state of things.
Mr Mokgethi further highlighted that they had received reports that some people had tempered with the markings.
“Let us be cooperative and not do things which will delay the project to commence and finish on schedule,” he said.
Furthermore, Mr Mokgethi said with the time frame for assessment having been set, affected owners should see to it that at all times there was someone at home so that when the assessors come the work could be done to avoid unnecessary delays which may lead to the dates to be pushed further, hence affecting other schedules.
Regarding the relocation of burial sites which were within the road reserve and had to be removed and reburied, councillor Mokgethi appreciated the families who had their loved ones having to be exhumed for their cooperation and noted that six burial have been exhumed and shall be reburied on the October 14 and place to be announced.
Principal Physical Planner, Mr Temogo Basimalakane appealed to the owners that since their properties have been marked to either be relocated completely or part of it to be affected they should not make any other developments on the marked portions.
He noted that they are working within a budget and as such other developments which may be done may result in additional funds which are not budgeted for.
He therefore pointed out that of the 245 properties to be affected, only nine would be relocated completely. ENDS
