CEDA to re-construct Mmathethe kgotla shelter

02 Oct 2016

The Citizen Entrepreneurship Development Agency(CEDA) boss, has pledged that his company would re-construct the Mmathethe main kgotla shelter that mysteriously burned down a few days before the nation’s 50 year anniversary festivities.
Mr Thabo Thamane told residents who had come in droves to join other Batswana and allies in spirit to celebrate strides achieved by the country which was classified as one of the poorest in the World and viewed from some quarters as destined to become an International charity case when vying for self- rule in 1966.
He explained that the traditional Kgotla system of governance was inherently pivotal to democracy and development because it gave all Batswana a platform to get information on the available citizen empowerment programmes, initiatives, policies and interventions.
Thus, he said the decision to re-construct the shelter was prompted by the view that it would be otherwise difficult for government to reach out to residents and for the latter to learn and subsequently take advantage of government programmes going forward.
For his part Kgosi Keabetswe Mosala was however happy that the Independence celebrations went ahead as planned despite the unfortunate incident. He revealed that they were a bit apprehensive after both the main kgotla and Goora-Tebogo shelters burned down a few days before the Independence Day.He said the police were still investigating the cause of the two incidents.
Kgosi Mosala thanked CEDA for the noble gesture adding it was going to be difficult to reach out to members of the public without the main assembly point in the village.
Meanwhile the guest speaker at the event Mr Leach Tlhomelang has encouraged Batswana to revive the spirit of self-help through which the forebears built the country from nothing to what it was today. He said Batswana should appreciate how far they have come from the time they had relatively little and be inspired to do more with what they now had.
He urged Mmathethe residents to take a leave from Kgosi Daniel Mathiba, a farmer of note and a stickler for self –reliance. ENDS
