Murder -accused wants car back from police

28 Aug 2016

One of the two accused in the murder of Thamaga two sisters, Bakang Godisang, has applied for the release of her car which has since been impounded by the police last year after her arrest.

Appearing before Broadhurst Court Principal Magistrate Mr Monashe Ndlovu on Thursday, Godisang, who is jointly charged with Caroline Gwamolumba for murder and arson accusations, told the court that her vehicle has since been in possession of the police and therefore needs it back for personal use.

However a proxy prosecutor from Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) said she was not in a position to reply as she was not instructed further other than to inform the court that the case docket is before the substantive prosecutor’s supervisor for perusal before handing it to the director to endorse it for committal to High Court.

In the meantime magistrate Ndlovu said the prosecutor should liaise with the investigating officer in the matter so that they could provide a response to the application for the release of the motor vehicle in the next mention date, which has been set down for September 26.

Godisang’s lawyer Mr Herbert Sikhakhane was absent while Gwamolumba’s lawyer Mr McBain Kaang was present. At the same time, Godisang did not tell the court whether the police have stopped harassing her in a move to turn her into a state witness as she alleged during the last mention of June 23, 2016.

Gwamolumba and Godisang are accused of setting Tuelo Mokgalo and Kgalalelo Mokgalo’s rented house in Block 3 location in Gaborone on fire on December 23, 2015. It is reported that the senior sister, Tuelo, who was heavily pregnant by then, was a love rival to Gwamolumba, and she ultimately gave birth under severe injuries.

Tuelo later died on December 31, 2015 while her sister, Kgalalelo died the following day on January 01, 2016.

The accused, got bail after their lawyers successfully argued that the two were good candidates for bail more so that the first accused, Gwamolumba who has been away on chemotherapy treatment in South Africa cannot stay in prison condition because of her medical condition.

As part of their bail, they were ordered to each deposit the sum of P3 000 with the treasury, secure two close family sureties who will bind themselves with the sum of P2 000, report once every Monday fortnightly at the nearest police station and surrender their traveling documents. Mr Bathusi Brown prosecutes the case. ENDS
