03 Aug 2016

Police in Bobonong are investigating criminal cases of murder, suicide and concealment of birth.

Acting station commander assistant superintendent Nshaki Mabophiwa said in an interview that in one of those incidents they were investigating a case in which a 24 year old man of Borotsi ward was stabbed to death with a sharp instrument at Sejadikoko depot on July 29 by an unknown assailant who is still at large.

Supt Mabophiwa said the deceased’s body was at Bobonong Primary Hospital mortuary awaiting post mortem and they have not yet arrested anyone pertaining to the murder.

He called on the members of the public to assist them with the leads to arrest the culprit.

The depot he said was notorious for marauding youth who flock to it especially at night.

On another issue, supt Mabophiwa said they were also investigating a suicide case involving a 44 year old security guard employed at Digitron Security who was found hanging from a tree.

The deceased was deployed to work at Zac construction burrow pits site to guard the machinery at Mothwane lands and was on a night shift.

The officer said the information they gathered from his colleagues was that the deceased was in a healthy mood prior to the incident when he reported for duty only to be found in the morning hanging from a tree, without leaving a message.

On another issue which involves concealment of birth, he said they were investigating a case involving a 34 year old woman of Kgwatalala ward who is alleged to have terminated pregnancy and concealed birth.

The pregnancy he said was alleged to be on the eighth month.

According to the investigation the incident occurred on July 23 and the suspect is alleged to have buried the foetus in a  shallow grave in the back yard garden.

Supt Mabophiwa said the issue was reported to the police on July 28 after dogs dug out the buried foetus and the suspect was arrested following a tip off from some suspecting people.

The alleged mother was arrested and later admitted at the hospital while the foetus was awaiting post mortem.

The alleged mother would be arraigned before court soon.

Supt Mabophiwa pleaded with people to always seek advice from relatives, social workers, dikgosi and the police whenever they encounter social problems rather than take their own lives.

He said in the police service they also have well trained professionals that could  provide advice to those that require it saying committing suicide brings grief and stress to family members as well as the society at large.

Another issue which was a cause for concern in the Bobonong policing area is the increasing incidents of stock theft and road accidents.

Pertaining to stock theft, he said criminals have targeted donkeys as the ploughing season approaches.

He appealed to owners to monitor movement of their livestock.

Also, he expressed concern about escalating number of road accidents in the area and called for responsible use of the roads.

He said police were undertaking public education to sensitise people about road accidents. ENDS
