Court sentences Kesolofetse for corruption

The regional magistrate court (south) has sentenced Gopolang Kesolofetse (40) to three years imprisonment wholly suspended for three years.

According to a press release from DCEC, the accused was also fined P14 000, which is payable on or before October 30.

It says Kesolofetse was accused of four counts of corruption, contrary to Section 31 as read with Section 36 of the Corruption and Economic Crime Act (Cap 08:05) Laws of Botswana.

“During trial, it was discovered that the accused person between June 28, 2007 and January 5, 2009 in Gaborone, whilst employed by Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC), a public body, as a sports development administration officer failed to declare her interest in Ripple Business Ventures,” says the release.

It further explains that, despite having direct interest as she was one of its directors, Kesolofetse participated in the proceedings at a time when the Botswana Chess Federation, Botswana Swimming Association ,

Botswana Athletics Association and Botswana Amateur Boxing Association members of the BNSC engaged Ripple Business Ventures to supply stationery, Acer computer, monitor, printer HP LaserJet, an office table and office chair worth P34 341.52.

Mr Othugile Mabe of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) appeared for the state while the accused person was represented by Mr Philip Nyamambe. Ends
