Kenosi case July 26
03 Jul 2016
One of the interesting cybercrime cases involving a journalist may finally be heard before the new Gaborone Village Chief Magistrate, Mr Mompati Taolo if this can go according to schedule.
This comes after both the prosecution and the defence agreed to embark on Case Management Conference (CMC) on July 26 in a case in which owner and publisher of the Paparazzi newspaper Daniel Kenosi is charged with cybercrime and related crime Act.
When they finally meet the two parties are expected to inform the court which evidence will be admitted and those that will be challenged before setting trial dates, which could be late this year or early next year, subject to availability of dates from the court diary.
In the past defence lawyer, Mr Lore Morapedi of Lore Morapedi Attorneys registered complaints over the sluggish manner in which the prosecution and the court was treating the matter as it is taking time for it to go on trial if ever a date will ever be set.
However, on June 28, the prosecutor from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Ms Thato Dibeela said the state was ready to proceed with trial as investigations have long been concluded save to say it will come with an amended charge sheet.
The state alleges that Kenosi on January 06 and March 12, 2015 distributed obscene material to the public through computer system. He is out on bail. ENDS
