27 Jun 2016

One of the two accused in the murder of Thamaga two sisters, whose rented house in Block 3 location in Gaborone was also gutted by the fire which was started by the accused has faulted the police for harassing and embarrassing her.
Bakang Godisang told Broadhurst Court principal magistrate, Mr Monashe Ndlovu that police had the habit of luring her to turn into a state witness whenever she went to report at the police station as part of her bail condition.
She said to make the matter worse at times the police went to the extent of paying her unexpected visits at her house where they continued to nag her on the same issue.
She however said she did not understand why they were doing this to her instead of addressing the issue with her lawyer as they knew that she had one.
In response magistrate Ndlovu advised her to inform her lawyer about these developments so that he could see how best the issue could be addressed.
Godisang’s lawyer Mr Herbert Sikhakhane was not in attendance.
Godisang and Caroline Gwamolumba are accused of setting Tuelo Mokgalo and Kgalalelo Mokgalo’s rented house in Block 3 location in Gaborone on fire on December 23, 2015. It is reported that the senior sister, Tuelo, who was heavily pregnant by then, was a love rival to Gwamolumba, and she ultimately gave birth under severe injuries.
Tuelo later died on December 31, 2015 while her sister, Kgalalelo died the following day on January 01, 2016.
The accused, got bail after their lawyers successfully argued that the two were good candidates for bail more so that the first accused, Gwamolumba who had been away on chemotherapy treatment in South Africa could not stay in prison condition because of her medical condition.
Attorney Mr McBain Kaang for Gwamolumba had told the court that care and medication taken by his client required a conducive atmosphere other than prison environment.
As part of their bail, they were ordered to each deposit the sum of P3 000 with the treasury, each secure two close family sureties who will bind themselves with the sum of P2 000, report once every Monday fortnightly at the nearest police station and surrender their traveling documents.
Meanwhile, the prosecutor Mr Bathusi Brown from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) informed the court that he had just received the docket and was busy studying it and would in due course write a letter to the director who would direct on what course to take regarding the case. ENDS
