Crime stats in Moshupa go down
21 May 2013
Crime statistics in the Moshupa policing area have decreased from January to date due to the work of police volunteers.
Moshupa Sub-council deputy chairperson, Mr Modibedi Lekoba said this during the ongoing sub-council meeting. He said the police volunteer clusters worked in two shifts, one during the day and at night to combat crime in the village.
He, however, said Moshupa police registered three murder cases, saying it was a major concern since their goal was to minimise such incidents. Mr Lekoba noted that a march was held at Ralekgetho settlement in order to sensitise the public about crime.
Mr Lekoba noted that a workshop was conducted by Moshupa police this year in order to educate the business community on safety at their premises, the importance of security syndicates and new crime trends in the country. “These efforts need to be commended because with each stakeholder knowing their role as far as crime prevention is concerned, we really can achieve the Vision 2016 pillar of a safe and secure nation,’’ he said.
Mr Lekoba also urged members of the community to keep away from crime by engaging in farming. He said 3 326 farmers in the sub-district had ploughed 11 574 hectares. He added that 95 per cent of the planted area had been paid off and he urged councillors to encourage their electorates to come forward for their payments.
He noted that harvesting had started, but said expected yields were low due to a prolonged dry spell, heat stress, pests and weeds infestation which was experienced in the entire sub-district.
Mr Lekoba informed councillors that registration for the 2013/14 season had started and that 128 farmers had registered for seeds and 67 for fertilisers. ENDS
