Sebele robbery ruling shifts further
02 Jun 2016
The long anticipated ruling on Sebele Filling Station armed robbery case which was to be heard in February this year may ultimately be delivered on June 23, when new trial dates for the sole remaining accused in the matter are set.
Former Gaborone Village chief magistrate, Ms Linah Oahile-Mokibe who is now stationed in Molepolole is expected to deliver ruling to Bampoloki Kgangpetsa, which will determine whether he has a case or no case to answer.
The delivery of the ruling follows the successful, yet laborious state case where over five state witnesses testified against the accused.
Kgangpetsa was charged alongside Joseph Gaie, who was shot dead in exchange of fire with the police early in February this year at Gaborone West Industrial area while allegedly on mission to commit robbery with other accused persons.
The other accused person, who has since vanished into thin air, but believed to be in neighbouring Zambia, is Golwelwang Efedile.
Before fleeing Gaborone, Efedile is suspected to have taken a hand in a spate of robberies which rocked Gaborone last year in November.
However, law enforcement agencies are hot on his trail.
The three men who are facing a single charge of armed robbery are accused of jointly robbing Northend Filling Station at gun point on February 05, 2012 where cash, cigarettes and airtime totaling P7 000 were stolen.
The long-winding case has attracted a lot of attention since its start, particularly that some of the accused once had a field day with journalists and prison wardens by pelting them with missiles, resulting in the breaking of a Mmegi newspaper still camera.
However, the same scenario nearly played itself out again on Tuesday this week when two BOPA photographers had to run for their dear lives when unusually irate Kgangpetsa lashed out at them saying as he said they were bent on destroying his good reputation by taking him some pictures.
This incident which left the prosecutor from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Ms Sally Boitumelo sprawling on the stairs as the irate Kgangpetsa was pursuing one of his fleeing victims was however swiftly contained by members of the security agencies who were in sight.
No charges were however pressed against Kgangpetsa who profusely begged for mercy when shown that what he was doing was totally unacceptable and that should he persist he will face the full wrath of the law. Ends
