Moroka case back to magistrate court
19 May 2016
Lobatse High court Judge Nthomiwa Nthomiwa has ordered that a case in which Vision 2036 chairperson and De beers chief Mr Neo Moroka was sued for allegedly killing Tsabong youngster, Kealeboga Danster in the fall of 2014 be taken back to be heard by the Magistrate Court.
Ms Margret Danster who is the deceased’s mother sued Mr Moroka for an amount of P2 million.
Ms Danster claimed that the actions of Mr Moroka who is the defendant in this case in killing the deceased deprived him (the deceased) of the opportunities of working and enjoying the normal period of life.
She also said the killing of his son deprived her of prospective financial support from the deceased.
Giving out the judgment last week Wednesday Judge Nthomiwa said the incident will now be assessed and determined by a Magistrate court on whether Moroka has a case to answer or not.
“The Magistrate Grade 1 or above stationed at either Gaborone or Tsabong will take preparatory examination against the respondent in respect of the death of Kealeboga Danster,” Judge Nthomiwa said.
Mr Moroka who is also the former Minister of Trade and Industry, is alleged to have shot and killed Kealeboga Danster at his farm in Makopong on the night of April 22, 2014, reportedly saying he mistook his victim for a dog.
At the time of his death, Danster was 18 years old and had just completed his Botswana General Certificate of Secondary School and was employed by the defendant.
Attorney Kgosietsile Ngakaagae represented Mr Moroka whilst Letlhogonolo Makgane represented Ms Danster.
