19 May 2016

Molepolole Station Commander, Superintendent Charles Mbengwa has bemoaned the increasing rate of murder/suicide cases in Molepolole  that have since reached 17 just before midyear.

Speaking to BOPA,  Superintendent  Mbengwa complained that individuals have resorted to violent acts and claiming own lives ignoring the saying that ‘Ntwa kgolo ke ya molomo’.

Supt Mbengwa said between January and May this year,  they have registered 10 murder cases that mostly occur during drinking sprees, some due to misunderstanding between family members while others resulted from mistrust over relationships.

He said under the same period, they also recorded seven suicide cases relating to issues of relationships that could have been resolved through interventions of family members.

The station commander said despite efforts to educate people and make sensitisation forums over the importance of communication, the state of affair continues.

Meanwhile Superintendent Mbengwa has warned motorists about the emerging trend of car hijackers who join hitch hikers from Mogoditshane on the pretext that they were either going to Molepolole or Gaborone.

The station commander said they were investigating three incidents in which three individuals were robbed of their cars in different spots in the past two weeks, after giving unknown assailants lifts from Molepolole to Gaborone.

One of the hijacked cars from Gaborone met his ordeal around Mmanoko village and his car has not been recovered yet. One of the cars was found abandoned at Magokotswane ward in Molepolole, while the third one overturned along Molepolole/Thebephatshwa road.

A similar incident was also reported by Thamaga Police Station Commander Superintendent Moses Makgoeng, where a Kanye woman was recently hijacked by two unknown assailants who were given lift from Gabane hiking sport claiming to be heading to Moshupa.

They were alleged to have requested the driver to stop for urinating and immediately attacked her, robbed her of cash amounting to P400 and a cellphone.

The two allegedly ordered the victim out of the car to the passenger’s seat before they drove her to an ATM machine near Choppies Supermarket in Thamaga village, where their effort to withdraw cash from the woman’s account aborted after she screamed for help and rescued by a passersby.

The hijackers  abandoned the car and escaped before arrest could be made.     Thamaga and Molepolole police station commanders indicated that the suspects use similar tactics of requesting drivers to stop on the way advancing different reasons to be able to advance attack on car owners.
