Prison refines inmates
05 May 2016
Renowned motivational speaker, Mr Loago Raditedu, has told prisoners at Molepolole prison that they should not give up since they are going through a rehabilitation process to come out as polished gems.
Speaking during a community service day hosted by the Department of Roads in the Ministry of Transport and Communications at the prisons recently, Mr Raditedu urged inmates to cherish jail-stay and make useful what they had learned.
“You will move out of here to top positions, jail is just meant to nurture you into maturity,” highlighted Mr Raditedu.
Mr Raditedu appreciated the gesture by the roads department to visit inmates saying it showed them that they were important members of the community as well.
However, Senior Superintendent Ookeditse Mpeo, officer in charge at Molepolole prison, raised a concern that some members of the community made rehabilitation efforts difficult by smuggling drugs, weapons and cellphones into prison.
Superintendent Mpeo said when inmates visited the hospital or serve extra murals, their relatives or friends met them to give them drugs and weapons.
He pleaded with the community to be in unison with them in order to rehabilitate inmates in order for the success of their rehabilitation process.
Superintendent Mpeo also encouraged the community to make use of carpentry and upholstery services they had.
The department of roads and transport donated toiletries worth over P8 000 to inmates, each receiving a pack of bath soap, face cloth, lotion, toothpaste and toothbrush among others.
Assistant commissioner-divisional commander south, Mr Otlametse Motshebe appreciated the gesture by the department, urging stakeholders and individuals to take leaf and find how they could contribute towards character moulding of inmates. Ends
