Maun police investigate suicide murder cases

Maun police are investigating the death of a 25-year-old woman who was found hanging from the rafters of her house on March 9.
Deputy Officer Commanding, Superintendent John Kelebeng said the deceased was found by her elder sister. The deceased, who hails from Nthayagodimo ward in Maun, used a night gown belt to hang herself.
He said the deceased wrote a note which stated that she owed a certain furniture store.
He said it was reported that the deceased had received several calls from the store about the debt worth P16 000 the previous day and was seen crying.
Still on the same date, a 31-year-old man murdered his girlfriend and committed suicide at Boseja ward in Maun.
Supt John Kelebeng said the two hailed from Francistown. He said a neighbour parted ways with the two lovers the previous night at around 9pm.
It is reported that the neigbour found the man hanging from the rafters while the woman lied motionless on the floor the next morning when she went to peep through the window after realising that the woman was not up at the usual time to prepare their school child.
Still in Maun, a 31-year-old man of Nxaraga wounded a 30-year-old woman said to be his ex-girlfriend by hacking her with a machete on the head and hand on March 8.
The man later committed suicide while the woman was admitted at Letsholathe II Memorial Hospital.
Meanwhile, Maun police are investigating two cases involving possession of elephant tusks. In one incident, a 46-year-old man and his 27-year-old son are being investigated for possession of 16 pieces of elephant tusks.
The two were found in possession of the tusks at Odiakee Veterinary Camp near Gweta on March 5 following a tip off. The two were using a taxi.
Furthermore, Supt John Kelebeng said two Zambian nationals were also found in possession of three pieces of elephant tusks immediately after the two Batswana men were arrested, in a stop and search operation at Odiakee Veterinary Camp.
He said the men were remanded in police custody to help with investigations while the Batswana men are on bail. The incident happened on March 5 and the Zambians will appear in court for mention on March 23. Ends
