Jwaneng police are investigating a case in which a 40-year-old man of Lopapeng cattlepost near Jwaneng defiled a 15-year-old primary school pupil.
Superitendent Theriso Thatayotlhe said the man was in police custody pending further investigations while the girl was undergoing medical care and counselling. Superintendent Thatayotlhe advised parents to take care of their children and monitor their movements to avoid such cases.
In a different incident, the station commander said they were investigating a case of grievous bodily harm in which a 33-year-old man of Sese was attacked by his siblings. He said the man reportedly had an argument with his siblings concerning debts when they started attacking him.
The man’s siblings started throwing stones at him before they hacked him with an axe on the back. Superitendent Thatayotlhe said the victim was in a critical condition at the hospital while his siblings were in police custody to help with investigations while waiting for their brother to recover.
The station commander urged the public to always seek parents’ or police help whenever they had problems rather than resolving to violence. On a different issue, the station commander said they were concerned about the increasing and alarming rates of house break-ins that took place especially during the day.
He said thieves targeted people who left for work in the morning and that they mostly went for expensive gadgets left at home. He said the thieves use street children to help during the break-ins.
He advised people to engage the neighbourhood watch programmes to help fight crime. Ends
