Magistrate denies man bail

11 Nov 2015

A 32-year-old man of Itholoke in the Southern District was this week denied bail after he allegedly threatened to kill his girlfriend and commit suicide.

The court heard that on November 3, 2015 at or near Itholoke the accused person, Motlanalo Motshegare, threatened to kill Kebonyemang Mosesane by uttering the words “ke tlaa go bolaya abo ke ipolaya,” which means “I will kill you and kill myself.”

The accused person’s efforts to plead for bail hit a snag as the prosecution led by Sub Inspector Itireleng Zulu indicated that the matter was still new and investigations were continuing.

He pleaded that the accused person be remanded in custody as there was a threat posed to the complainant’s life and his.

“The accused should be remanded as he has threatened to kill the complainant and commit suicide. We are afraid that if given bail he might accomplish his mission,” he noted.

The case would continue on December 18.

On a different matter, a 49-year-old woman who stays in Botapo ward in Mabutsane appeared before the Jwaneng magistrate court to answer for a charge of leaving cattle or other animals in a place from which they were likely to stray on to a main road contrary to Section 100(2)(b) of the Road Traffic Act of the Laws of Botswana.

The particulars of the offence state that the accused person, Keipeile Mmolawa, on December 1, 2014 left her bullock to stray on the A2 road in the South West Administrative district of the Republic of Botswana and was knocked by a motor vehicle.

The prosecutor sub inspector Itireleng Zulu said he did not oppose bail, provided the accused person attended all court sessions when required to do so and also that she does not commit a similar offence while on bail.

He told the court that the investigations were complete and the matter was scheduled for mention on November 30. Ends
