Hawking in middle of traffic offence

09 Nov 2015

The police have warned the public and hawkers that it is an offence to sell goods in the middle of traffic.

According to a press release from Botswana Police Service, the police have observed that the hawkers have developed a tendency of taking their business into heavy traffic in public highways in Gaborone, especially during pick hours selling some thirst-quenchers and other items.

The release says the police warn the hawking communities engaged in such a practise to refrain from doing so as their action is likely to put themselves and other road users at risk of road accidents.

It says the police further advises the hawkers to also abide by their hawking licence regulations by sticking to their areas of operation for the purpose of creating an environment conducive to the safety of motorists and the general public.

“Meanwhile, motorists are also advised against promoting the selling of goods in traffic,” says the release. Ends
