Accused denies break-in stealing

A 32-year-old resident of Thamaga recently pleaded not guilty to all the six charges he faced at the Molepolole Magistrate court which included; three charges of breaking into a motor vehicle and three of stealing from the same motor vehicles.

Moabi Rankgopo, according to the particulars of the offence is said to have on the same date of March 14, committed four of the counts presented before him.

He is alleged to have broken into two motor vehicles with the intention to steal; thereby stealing from a blue Isuzu, items including clothes, an acatel cellphone and P2 000 cash, all amounting to P5 500. 

He is also said to have stolen from a grey Toyota Vitz belonging to Belleminah Lesole two Nokia cellphones all valued at P2800.

On the fifth and sixth counts, the accused on May 16, 2015 at Kerane Cemetery at Thamaga is said to have broken into another motor vehicle being a Toyota Corrolla belonging to Kabo Keromang with the intention to steal thereby stealing a Sony car radio worth P1500.

When addressing the court on the development of the case, the State Prosecutor Sub-Inspector Moshe Karabo of Thamaga Police informed the court that the substantive prosecutor was still working on the summary of the case and also applied for the remand of the accused person.

When addressing the court on the bail application by the accused, Sub Inspector Karabo further prayed for the remand of the accused, saying it has proven that he kept committing similar offences informing the court that the other four offences were committed in March and the other two in May while the burden was still upon the accused.  

Mr Karabo further said the last case had overwhelming evidence as he was caught red handed by members of the public who were attending a funeral. He also said the investigating officer will appear in court to explain why the accused should not be given bail.

Molepolole Chief Magistrate Faith Dlamini-Ngandu approved the application to further remand the accused in custody so the accused will appear before court on September 3. ENDS
