Innovation significant in fighting crime

28 Jul 2015

Cluster policing members have been implored to seek innovative ways of combating crime.

Mr Golekwang Phatshwane, who was an adjudicator at the Bobonong Police Station cluster presentations recently, said since crime rates have escalated in the policing area, there was a need for clusters to find effective ways to arrest the situation.

The clusters had gathered to give their quarterly presentations on the crime situation in the area.

Bobonong has nine policing clusters being Selemanchimo, Bobonong South East, Lepokole, Bobonong Central, Molalatau, Borotsi and Bobonong South West.

Mr Phatshwane said the work of the clusters requires dedication as they serve as the shield of the nation.

He noted that one of the issues highlighted during the presentations was the high prevalence of illegal immigrants. He challenged them to seek ways to deal with the problem.

He called for a robust patrol of the border fence to arrest persons who cross illegally into the country.

Mr Phatshwane suggested that clusters should use platforms such as Village Development Committee meetings to sensitise the public about crime.

He further said dikgosi must appeal to government departments to assist clusters with transport where possible.

During the presentations, the Bobonong South East cluster scooped first position while position two went to Borotsi. Bobonong South West and Bobonong Central got position three and four respectively.

Bobonong Police Station Acting Commander Assistant Superintendent Nshaki Mabophiwa urged clusters not to take presentations as competitions, but an opportunity to exchange ideas on how to deal with crime in the area.

Kgosi Madome Madome applauded cluster policing members for working tirelessly to curb crime in their respective areas.

He appealed to other stakeholders to work hand in hand with the police to reduce crime. ENDS
