Mushrooming of bars worry kgosi

27 Jul 2015

Kgosi Sello Pule of Gabane has raised alarm over the growing number of bars in his village.

In an interview recently, Kgosi Pule said the development was worrisome as many students frequent bars during weekends and neglect their studies.

He said bars were a source of noise pollution which denies students a quiet studying environment.

“As you know bars should not be allowed in any village.

However, there is nothing we can do because these bar operators are licensed by relevant authorities,” he said.

More than 10 bars currently operate in Gabane. He said the fact that the village was near Gaborone has put them at high risk.

“A lot of people come here to relax at the bars and later indulge in criminal activities,” said Kgosi Pule.

He, however, gave police credit for being helpful in their attempts to address the situation.

“The police are trying their best to try and remedy the situation.

The only setback is that they are understaffed and hence they cannot fully help our village,” he said.

Kgosi Pule also took a swipe at the youth who indulge in criminal activities and alcohol abuse in thevillage. He said they use unemployment as a lame excuse for their behaviour.

“I do not believe unemployment is an excuse.

There are many youth programmes that our government has established to try and help them. They need to use them for survival,” he said.

He also urged Balete to revert to the neighbourhood watch programme to arrest crime in the village. Ends
