Setting goals critical
27 Jul 2015
North East District councillors have been informed that it is critical to set goals for one to attain success.
Speaking during a workshop held in Masunga recently, a Botswana National Productivity Centre (BNPC) official, Mr Jacob Mmola said setting goals served as a driving force behind one’s intention to attain anythin hence the need for people to desist from working without setting goals.
Mr Mmola further stressed the importance of remaining committed to one’s goals; saying without commitment there was likelihood of one losing focus and being derailed from their plans along the way.
He also said once one was committed, it becomes easier for them to surmount whatever challenges that could crop up and threaten to thwart their laid out goals.
In addition, Mr Mmola called on councillors to know and understand their character traits.
He pointed out that this would enable them to be effective in whatever they set their minds to achieve, as they would find it easier to adapt to situations due to them having a clearer understanding of their own strengths and weaknesses.
Earlier, officially opening the workshop, the council chairperson, Ms Florah Mpetsane expressed optimism that the workshop would help bring about a transformation in the way councillors conducted themselves as well as in the manner in which they performed their duties.
She implored councillors to always bear in mind that they were the face of both the district council and the respective communities they represented.
Ms Mpetsane said councillors were duty-bound to conduct themselves in a manner that would not bring themselves and the council’s name into disrepute.
Commenting, the council secretary, Mr Charles Amos urged councillors to strive for being quality representatives of their communities.
He said the electorate should not, at any point, be disappointed in councillors’ leadership qualities. Mr Amos urged councillors to always strive to reflect good governance.
The workshop, which was conducted following a request by councillors, aimed to instill in the participants skills necessary for effective goals setting as well as efficient management of time.
It was also meant to help cultivate a culture of a positive work ethic with the view to enhancing productivity, not only in the workplace, but also in other spheres of life. Ends
