Initiative continues to benefit more

Ngamiland District leaders have hailed the private sector and the public for rallying behind the President’s Housing Appeal initiative.
Speaking during the handing over ceremony of a one and a half roomed house constructed by former Discovery Metals Boseto Mine (DML) employees together with Khoemacau Copper Mining Company, acting Batawana paramount chief, Kgosi Kealetile Moremi said it was pleasing to see companies responding positively to the President’s plea of housing the needy.
The over P95 000 project was donated to Ms Kemosedile Lenthabile of Toteng who lived in a mud roomed house together with her eight children.
Kgosi Moremi said since the President made the plea, Batswana revived the spirit of giving and continued to demonstrate love and compassion towards the less privileged.
She said there were unconfirmed reports that the DML mine was not performing well, but the employees found it fit to extend a helping land despite the difficult situation they were in.
Kgosi Moremi thanked the employees for the gesture and also thanked Khoemacau Copper Mining for taking over the BOSETO mine which was closed recently after going through liquidation.
She said the opening of the mine would bring back life to Toteng communities who were left in limbo after the unexpected closure.
She urged the beneficiaries to take care of the house.
North West District Council secretary, Mr Mozondick Moswete commended DML employees that they managed to give back to the Toteng community.
He said they demonstrated love and ensured that people live dignified lives by staying in safe and secure places.
He said the council was mandated to take care of the needy, and that it could not manage alone because of the high number of beneficiaries.
Mr Moswete explained that Ms Lenthabile was their beneficiary and was amongst the people who were in need of shelter. He pleaded with the community to assist other needy people and continue what the DML company had started.
Giving an overview of the project, Mr Puso Akanyang said the project started after a sponsored walk that was conducted by the former employees and stakeholders in October 2014.
He said they raised P88 000 and that Khoemacau company donated P10 000 towards the project.
“We managed to construct a house, toilet, furnished the house, fenced the plot and connected a stand pipe,” he added. Mr Akanyang said the project was an answer to the President’s call to build houses for the needy.
For her part, Ms Lenthabile thanked everyone involved in building her a house and encouraged them to also assist other needy people. Ends
