Health programme attracts youth

Acting deputy permanent secretary for preventive health services in the Ministry of Health, Dr Haruna Baba Jibril, says the implementation of Youth Friendly Services (YFS) in the ministry, has attracted a lot of young people as the programme offered sexual and reproductive health issues in a friendly environment.
Speaking during the YFS awards ceremony organised by the District Health Management Team (DHMT) in Terrafou Lodge recently Dr Jibril said working with young people has never been an easy task as they require someone who understands them and guides them without being judgmental.
“The Ministry of Health recognises the importance of giving adolescents priority when formulating polices.
He said the YFS initiative has brought significant changes hence the dedication and struggle endured by the staff deserve to be applauded.
Ms Gosata Rabantheng, Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health programme officer in the Ministry of Health, explained that the criteria for awarding excellence is based on the YFS facilities, the policy and administration, the services provided as well as the service provider at the different facilities across the country.
The awards, themed A Clinic with a Difference Provided a Platform to share experiences, achievements and challenges encountered in different districts in matters affecting adolescent sexual and reproductive health. The first trophy went to Scottish Livingstone Hospital, followed by Bobirwa District and Rakops Clinic respectively. Ends
