Out of School Education Training (OSET) has started to bear desired fruits. Speaking in an interview with BOPA recently, Mrs Keikotlhae Basima, an OSET trainer, said elders in Lotlhakane East have welcomed the initiative with both hands.

She said the training covers Setswana, English, Mathematics and General Studies. Classes start from 1200 hours to 1400 hours and from 1600 hours to 1800 hours. Mrs Basima noted that OSET has three levels, at the end of which learners graduate and acquire certificates.

Despite the success of the programme, some elders leave their studies to attend to family matters such as funerals and wedding ceremonies while others just quit.Basima said some return to find that they have forgotten what they learnt, forcing them to start afresh.

He said that he is now literate thanks to the initiative. Banda explained that he enjoys English, Setswana and Mathematics. He said that General Studies helped him make necklaces and earrings. He thanked the government for the noble programme and urged other elders to follow-suit for their own benefit. Ends
