Members of the North East District Road Safety Committee have been encouraged to use the skills they received during a recent basic first aid training in all spheres of life as issues of safety are not only confined to the road.
Giving a keynote address during the hand-over of certificates to committee members who underwent training in February, the public relations manager at Tati Nickel Mine Mr Tebogo Rapitsenyane said ensuring the safety of both people and the environment was crucial.
Speaking at the event held in Masunga on Tuesday (June 30), he called on the certificate recipients to take to heart the importance of looking out for others.
Mr Rapitsenyane also said some road accidents were a result of negligence of road traffic regulations, drunk driving and fatigue, among other factors.
He called for the reinforcement of efforts to inculcate a change of mindset among all road users. He pointed out that although it is not easy to attain the desired mindset change, it is critical that the road safety committee continues to teach road users about the significance of ensuring that the country’s roads are safe for all.
Mr Romeo Botlhasitse, who facilitated the training, underscored the importance of applying first aid skills appropriately, adding that failure to do so could aggravate injuries during accidents.
He urged the recipients to pass on the skills to others who may not have had the opportunity to undergo the training.
The chairperson of the committee, who is also the assistant district commissioner, Mr Collen Tubego emphasised the need for teamwork in ensuring safety on the country’s roads.
He also thanked Tati Nickel Mine for the support it gave the district’s road safety committee. Mr Tubego said the mine’s contribution to guaranteeing safety for all road users is commendable. Ends
