Refrain from selling plots - Maele
24 Jun 2015
Minister of lands and housing, Mr Prince Maele, has appealed to Kang residents to stop selling land that has been allocated to them.
Addressing a kgotla meeting in the village on Monday (June 22), Mr, Maele explained that residents needed to refrain from selling land because in future there would be no land left for them and the coming generations.
He advised the community to be cautious with land and offer it as rent outlets to those willing to utilise it for an agreed period rather than losing them forever.
Mr Maele said government is concerned about undeveloped plots within the area and appealed to plot owners to develop them.
He said residents can return undeveloped plots to the local landboard if their failed to develop them and they will be allocated land when there were ready to develop.
Mr Maele said land boards across the country have adopted a new system of allocating only demarcated plots but not at places of the applicant choice.
“Those applicants who would not accept plots allocated to them will have to wait for a longer period before the landboard could consider their application,” he said.Mr Maele condemned bribing of land board officers by some residents to be given preference over other residents when allocating land and urged the officers to refrain from the practice.
He said the ministry has decided to stop issuing duplicated copies of plot certificates because people nowadays tend to sell the same plot to different people using the duplicated copies. Ends
