Ledumadumane murder trial in September
18 Jun 2015
The 2012 Ledumadumane soccer match murder case which commenced on December 09, 2014 after the defence had scrutinised the deceased’s photo album, is scheduled to start September this year.
The trial was supposed to have commenced on May 12, 2015 for two days before Judge Bengbame Sechele, but has since been transferred to adjudicate in corruption cases at Lobatse High Court, thus causing yet another delay in the commencement of the trial.
Initially, the trial was supposed to have gone on full swing last September, but was incidentally halted owing to late serving of defence with photo albums and documentary statements.
At the time of the postponement, lead prosecutor from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Mr Kutlo Tsekane said the defence had asked for a rescheduling because they had to go and study the statements and determine which they could admit as well as to critically study the photos of the deceased showing injuries sustained.
In Friday’s sitting (June 12) which was before Judge Tshepo Motswagole with the prosecution team made up of Messrs Tsekane and Kealeboga Kapeko confirmed September 15, 16, 22 and 23, 2015 as trial dates.
Meanwhile, Justice Motswagole ordered both the prosecutions and defence to meet on August 18, 2015 at the DPP chambers to navigate a way forward on the conduct of their case of which the outcome of that meeting should be documented and filed with the court.
The accused in the matter are Mabogo Lesotlho, Kgololo Lesotlho (cousins) and Montwedi Molefe. The trio is accused of jointly and unlawfully murdering Ishmael Moseki during a football match played at Ledumadumane near Mmopane village on February 25, 2012.
According to police report, argument broke out between supporters of the Ledumadumane’s Swallows Football Club and Mmopane’s Molapo Green Birds Football Club leading to one supporter of Green Birds being butchered with a sharp instrument.
Upon realising that one of their own has been killed,
pandemonium ensued and Green Birds supporters retaliated in a mob fashion and
descended on the deceased with anything they could lay their hands on.
The first accused, Mabogo is represented by Mr Phemelo Rankoro, while Kgololo is represented by attorney Modise Melusi David. Molefe on the other hand is represented by attorney Anthony Ahulu.
The accused are all on bail which was granted by the Gaborone High Court. ENDS
