Assault cases high in Chobe
03 Apr 2013
Chobe District officer commanding, Mr Tamapo Nthoiwa has expressed concern over the growing number of assault cases in the Chobe region.
“The district has registered a total of 14 cases over the holidays and most of them involve youth between the age group of 18-24 years,” Mr Nthoiwa said.
The 14 included common assault, grievous bodily harm, unlawful wounding and permanent injury.
Eight of these were common assault cases. Mr Nthoiwa said most of these cases were alcohol related.
No road accident was recorded. However, 25 motorists were charged for over speeding compared to 15 last year around this time.
“We intensified our road blocks to curb perpetrators and also to reduce fatigue caused accidents,” he explained. There were two road blocks between Nata and Pandamatenga as motorists tended to over speed in that area.
He expressed satisfaction at the general behavior by the Chobe residents over the holidays, saying their efforts of public education were bearing fruits. ENDS
