Superintendent John Kelebeng has appealed to couples to involve mediators when they have misunderstandings.

His advice came following an unlawful wounding incident that the Maun police were investigating. In an interview recently, Supt Kelebeng said a 39-year-old man was assisting the police with investigations after he was reported to have beaten his 35-year-old girlfriend.

He allegedly inserted a size 32 spanner into the woman’s genitals on April 26 at Bombadi ward in Maun. Supt Kelebeng said the victim bled severely and was hospitalised at Letsholathebe II Memorial Hospital.

He advised that couples should avoid losing temper but rather involve relevant people to restore peace in their relationships. In another incident, a 65-year-old man survived a hippo attack on a speed boat he was driving and swam to safety on April 23.

Supt Kelebeng said the Gumare man was on a work mission transporting gas cylinders from Maun to Xaxaba when the accident happened. It was reported that it happened at around 5pm near Ivory Camp in the Delta where the hippos were resting in the stream.

Information indicated that when the speed boat approached, one of the hippos attacked it and the driver lost control.

Supt Kelebeng said the Maun police were also investigating two cases of possession of dagga.  In one incident, two men were found with about 20 grams sachet of dagga in a stop and search campaign. He said the other involved one man who was found with a small amount of dagga after being reported of being a nuisance. Ends
