Ledumadumane murder case stalls
26 Mar 2013
Plans to commit the Ledumadumane murder case to the High Court have been stalled as one of the three accused has told the court that his committal papers were not in order.
The accused, Montwedi Molefe told the court that some of the committal papers which he was given by state prosecutor, Mr Morebodi Jamba from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) indicated that he was both an accused and a state witness and as such he has been thrown into confusion.
Montwedi also told the court that ever since he received the documents two weeks ago, he has been trying to read them with little understanding because of the misunderstanding.
For his part, Mr Jamba informed the court that the confusion was genuine and that he has informed Molefe to ignore the part that states that he is a state witness. However, Molefe said he was still confused and wanted to go and read the statements and the committal documents once more.
Proxy magistrate, Ms Priscilla Ditlhong ordered that the accused be given time to read the papers thoroughly so that by the time they are committed they would have a better understanding of what is written in them.
The accused in the matter are Mabogo Lesotlho, Kgololo Lesotlho, who are cousins and Molefe.
Onneetse Setlhomolane, who was previously charged alongside the trio, has been released as there was insufficient evidence to connect him with the murder.
The trio is accused of jointly and unlawfully murdering Ishmael Moseki during a football match played at Ledumadumane near Mmopane in February 2012.
According to police reports, an argument broke out between supporters of Ledumadumane’s Swallows Football Club and Mmopane’s Molapo Green Birds Football Club leading to one supporter of Green Birds being stabbed to death with a sharp instrument.
Realising that one of their own has been killed, pandemonium ensued and Green Birds supporters retaliated in a mob fashion. ENDS
