Court remands murder suspect in custody

Bobonong magistrate court has remanded Iketseng Gakeitire of Noko ward in Lepokole, murder suspect, in custody until his case is referred to Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
According to the charge sheet, Gakeitire, 31, is alleged to have murdered his girlfriend, Gasekgale Dikinya of Semolale village at Dauemejaleebana cattlepost by hacking her with an axe on August 1, 2014.
The suspect who appeared before Bobonong principal magistrate Goabaone Rammapudi is scheduled to appear again for mention on March 23.
In the previous appearance, the suspect refused to talk prompting the magistrate to refer him to a psychiatric for assessment. However, according to the magistrate, psychiatric report indicates that the accused is fit to proceed with the case.
When Magistrate Rammapudi inquired from him whether he is ready to start the court proceedings, he responded in the affirmative.
The suspect also told the court that he will represent himself in the case.
Meanwhile, state prosecutor, Inspector Bikkie Malaolo, of Semolale police told the court that police investigations in the matter have been completed and was ready to hand over the docket to DPP this week for further assessment.
Inspector Malaolo said while the process of handing over the docket to DPP is being carried out, he pleaded with the court to further remand the suspect in custody.
In another matter, the Magistrate Rammapudi allowed state prosecutor Ogolotse Tampa of DPP to amend the charge sheet in which Kealeboga Oagile, 32, of Sekoba ward in Bobonong previously accused of threat to kill to charge him with intimidation or molestation.
Oagile is alleged to have made utterances and threatened to burn a certain Onalethata Mokenti of Nteda ward in Molalatau inside a tent in August 1 last year.
The prosecutor, Mr Tamapa indicated that the state will call five witnesses to argue their case.
Meanwhile, in a case involving stock theft, Galebaswa Marope, 52, an army officer and his accomplices Ditshupo and Mathata Gopolang aged 31 and 32 years respectively and the forth accused Israel Makwaeba of Zimbabwe, the Magistrate set September 17 and October 8 as trial dates.
The quartet is accused of stealing 10 goats in Gobojango.
The first accused Marope is represented by attorney Mr Oganeditse Marata while others said they will represent themselves. ENDS
