Lopang urges officers to help fight crime

Public officers have been encouraged to take responsibility by participating in crime prevention and adhering to traffic laws.

Addressing the employees at the Rural Administration Centre recently, Gumare police station commander, Superintendent Phillip Lopang expressed disappointment that some people got killed in passages near government employee’s apartments, but public officer did not bother to said the police during investigations. 

He encouraged them to form cell groups in their area to reduce the increasing crime in Gumare. He also advised them to work hand in hand with the police to form these crime prevention teams. Presenting on road safety, Inspector Tsotlego Kgobero pleaded with the heads of departments to take part in the road safety committees instead of delegating. 

Inspector Kgobero raised concern about public officers who abused alcohol because they became easy targets for criminals at their homes. He also cautioned those who played loud music saying they should lead by example.  

He said in December 2014, 20 public officers were charged for speeding and this year, 28 had been charged so far, while some drive without a licence. Employees were also lectured on bye laws and the responsibility of the criminal investigation unit. ENDS
