Police investigate rape case
15 Oct 2014
Francistown Central Police are investigating an incident in which a 26-year-old man allegedly raped a 40-year-old woman over the weekend after a drinking spree at Monarch location.
In an interview, the station commander, Supt Lebalang Maniki said the alleged offender and the victim left the alcohol outlet together for the victim’s house where the rape took place. Supt Maniki stated that between January and October last year, the police recorded 43 cases of rape compared to 28 this year during the same period.
Out of this year’s 28 cases, five involved children aged three to eight years, he said, adding that the alleged rapists were well known to the victims including cousins, aunt’s boyfriends, and neighbours.
He appealed to parents to take care of their children, especially girls by monitoring their movements and behavior on a daily basis. Parents should not neglect their children; instead, they should be ready to interrogate them and even check telling signs and symptoms of fear and crying, advised the police chief.
He said he was worried that rape cases in his area, especially as they affected children, were many, adding that the problem should be fought rigorously. ENDS
