Thieves steal cables

19 Aug 2014

Mochudi police are investigating an incident in which four Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) overhead cables were stolen from four different homes at Phaphane ward on Friday.

Assistant Superintendent Wazha Zambezi said the police were concerned by the rate at which the theft of electric cable was rising in the area.

Supt Zambezi said the crimes were usually committed at night.

He said it was obvious that there was a lucrative market for power cables, adding that residents should fight crime by helping the police because they cannot be everywhere at all times to stop crime.

Supt Zambezi implored residents in the affected areas to form cluster policing teams and participate in them actively so that together they could stop crime.

He said although the police undertook night patrols around Mochudi, it was not enough as the community had to take part in combating crime as well.

In another crime incident, police on Sunday caught three men aged between 30 and 60, who were driving a vehicle loaded with carcasses suspected to be of wild animals.

Assistant Supt Zambezi said the trio was nabbed at around 2am and that initial investigation had revealed that the carcasses were those of three impalas and one wildebeest.

Zambezi further said the men would be brought before the Mochudi Magistrate Court to answer for charges of killing and theft. Ends
