Tusks land duo in trouble

Maun police are investigating a case in which two Zambian men aged 32 and 48 were caught in possession of elephant tusks.

Superintendent John Kelebeng of Maun police said the two were caught at Kubung ward in Maun about midnight following a tip off. He said the elephants’ tusks were found in a huge bag that also had dried fish caught at Lake Ngami at Sehithwa.

Meanwhile, Supt Kelebeng said a 28-year-old woman Ms Ndolo Shoti, commonly known as Sarah, was reported missing on August 9 while collecting wild berries at Gudigwa settlement on August 8.

He said Ms Shoti, who is not mentally fit was the same woman who got lost last year with a three months old child, only to return alone claiming that the child had been snatched by jackals.

Supt Kelebeng also said there was an ongoing search for a 50-year-old man of Botshabelo ward at Etsha 6 who was reported missing on August 8.
A friend said that he separated ways with his missing man after carousing at around eight at night.

On a similar note, Maun police were investigating a case in which a 29-year-old man of Shashe ward went missing after he fought with his 32-year-old girl friend on August 9.

The incident was reported on August 10 and the man is said to have left after his parents scolded him for abusing his girlfriend.

Still in Maun, a 38-year-old man of Boseja ward in Maun is helping the police with investigations pertaining to the death of his 35-year-old girl friend of Thito ward in Maun.

According to acting Station Commander, Superintendent Oarabile Hulela, the incident happened at Boseja ward where the man resides alone.
The man is said to have gone with his girlfriend to his place at Boseja ward on August 6 at night but it was not apparent what exactly took place.

However, on August 8 in the morning, the man reported to the police that his girlfriend was motionless.

Supt Hulela said the police indeed found the girl motionless and took her to the Letsholathebe II Memorial Hospital where she was certified dead and awaiting postmortem while the man is remanded in custody.

Furthermore, Supt Hulela said Maun police were also investigating a suicide case concerning a 30-year-old man of Boseja ward in Maun, who was found hanging on a mophane tree on August 7 in Maun.

He said the man who hanged himself with a wire was certified dead on arrival at the hospital, adding that the cause for his fate was unknown. ENDS
