Maun police are investigating a suicidal incident in which a 45year-old man was found hanging at his rented house on Thursday (July 3) morning in Boyei ward.

The Station Commander, Superintendent Kenanao Badumetse confirmed the incident in an interview, noting that the neighbours explained that the deceased was last seen on July 2 in the evening at around 8pm after he had a good time with his neighbours at their rented home.

He said the neighbours reported that late at night, they decided to retire to bed and the following day the deceased was nowhere to be found.

Superintendent Badumetse revealed that the neighbours called his mobile phone and heard it ringing from his rented house and they looked through the window only to find him hanging from the rafters.

The deceased used a rope to hang himself and the incident was reported to the police and the deceased was rushed to Letsholathebe II Memorial Hospital where he was certified dead on arrival.

Superintendent Badumetse said the deceased did not leave any suicidal note.

On another issues, police are investigating an assault occasioning actual bodily harm incident involving a 41 year-old man.

According to Superintendent Badumetse, the victim met his ordeal while trying to force entrance to the warehouse where he was accommodated by his manager.

He said the victim who works for Achain Hardware Company was on trip from Gaborone to do some work at their hardware in Maun.

Since he had no accommodation, he requested his manager to accommodate him in the hardware and there was no communication with the security guard at the premises.

Superintendent Badumetse said late at night, the security guard heard someone kicking the door to the extent of forcing entry to the warehouse and the security guard hit the victim with his knobkerrie on the head thinking that he is a thief.

He said the victim was holding a brick and the security guard who was trying to defend himself took it from him and hit the victim again on the head leaving him with serious injuries.

Supt Badumetse said the security guard then informed others from the neighbouring companies about his attack and they reported the matter to the police.

Superintendent Badumetse said the victim was rushed to Letsholathebe Memorial hospital and later referred to Nyangabwe in Francistown.

He said the manager confirmed that the victim is his employee. Police suspect that there was a communication breakdown between the victim, manager and the security guard. ENDS
