Cable thieves plunge village into darkness

17 Jun 2014

Cable theft has escalated in Pilane since the beginning of the winter season leaving several households in total darkness.

Speaking in an interview, Kgosi Kaeparura said in a week, about 15 cases of stolen overhead power cables were reported to have been stolen. He added that the assailants did not only cut cables at homes, but also cables that connected poles.

Kgosi Kaeparura said since the beginning of this year, house break-in cases wereon the rise, adding that the cases had been reported to the police who were still conducting investigations.

Kgosi Kaeparura raised a concern over high alcohol consumption and drug abuse among the youth, saying some of these youths ended up being admitted at Sbrana Psychiatric hospital.

He said this kind of behaviour will get them nowhere as they wasted their lives and time on things which destroyed their future. He urged the youth to refrain from abusing drugs and concentrate on building a better future for themselves.

In other issues, the village development committee chairperson, Mr Solomon Mosweu said Ipelegeng was doing well in their village and that if it was possible they would use it to construct VDC houses in the village.

He said they were faced with a challenge of connecting electricity to two of the three houses that they have. Mr Mosweu said the connection fee stands at almost P50 000 which Botswana Power Corporation wants them to pay in full and they are failing to do so due to lack of funds.

He said the fees are high because they are charged as a business entity. ENDS
