Attorneys for both the prosecution and defense said Tuesday (May 27) that they expected the complainant in the Thabo Masilo rape and robbery case to continue with her evidence in-chief and to be cross examined.
The case was heard in camera this week after a six-month hiatus thanks to the sudden illness of the court reporter. The court had adjourned after the complainant had started giving evidence. The trial resumed Monday. The defence was expected to cross-examine on the same day.
Before start of the case on Monday, defence counsel, Mr Kgosietsile Ngakaagae informed the court that Masilo’s ailing ear was bothering him again and he would need medical attention after the court finished with the first witness late Tuesday
Meanwhile, the prosecutor from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Mr Kutlo Tsekane said he was anticipating that the trial would proceed as scheduled. He told BOPA that the four-day-trial would see the court calling the brother of the complainant, investigating officer and medical officer to the witness stand.
Masilo, who is a former student at Botho University, is also facing a murder a charge. The Lobatse High Court recently denied him bail pending trial after the prosecution successfully opposed it on the basis that he had a string of criminal charges.
He has been in custody he was arrested for the murder of a St. Joseph College female student. The case has been committed to the High Court and is scheduled to be allocated a judge. ENDS
